What's in a name

Trees live, and no living being dreams of becoming something lifeless and unrecognizable. We seldom associate the living magnificence of a tree, with the sheer utilitarian nature of what we call wood. Can we humbly and with artistry, reminisce with the once living tree, and create a memory of grace, beauty and strength in physical form. Different from the tree but true to the dreams held within the wood.

  1. The slide show above is for a chair I call the "Celtonorasian Chair", the influences come from three cultures, the Celts, the Norse and Asia.
The wood for the piece was rescued from the trash pile on a luxury home in Texas, it is Poplar, considered by most to be "paint grade", meaning it isn't pretty enough to go around with a clear coat. I think I might be paint grade too. Ha.
The finish consists of several washes that I made from different berries and barks from the yard, the carvings were then outlined with powdered pastel, applied with a brush, the entire surface was then misted with oil from a small hand operated atomizer, over all of that went a coat of pigmented paste wax.
The chair is actually a part of a vignette, including several paintings and other furniture pieces. Photos of which will show up in the near future.
